Vines Above Clouds' collaboration begins with great momentum

The inaugural event of the 'Vines Above Clouds' collaboration, an innovative partnership which brings together three wineries, Tsiakkas, Kyperounda and Santa Irene, was held with great success on 3 December at Pinolo restaurant in Nicosia.

The partnership, which is funded by the Leader initiative of the Troodos Development Company (Rural Development Programme 2014-22), aims to promote the wines of the region and the unique heritage of Troodos vineyards located at altitudes above 800m.

The event included a tasting led by the distinguished Master of Wine Demetri Walters, during which participants had the opportunity to taste selected wines from high altitude vineyards of the three wineries. The tasting highlighted the special flavour and aromatic qualities that the high altitude, combined with the geological richness and the special microclimate of Troodos, gives to the wines.

The event was attended by leading professionals of the wine industry, such as winemakers, oenologists, viticulturists, sommeliers, wine merchants, as well as journalists, educators and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.

The “Vines Above Clouds” initiative brings together the heroic winegrowers and winemakers of Troodos. Its main aim is to highlight the precious heritage of the region's high altitude vineyards, which reach altitudes of up to 1,501 metres, making them perhaps the highest in Europe. Furthermore, the initiative aims to enhance the image of Cypriot premium wines in the local and international market, highlighting their authentic and distinctive character.
