Old Hollywood grandeur at Limassol Marina

Kalizma yacht, formerly the cherished possession of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, berthed at Limassol Marina recently, generating a lot of interest around its iconic history and brining some vintage Hollywood to Cyprus.

Built in 1906, the Kalizma was a gift given to Taylor by Burton, and lovingly named after their three children Kate, Liza, and Maria. Over the years, the yacht has passed through many hands, until it was eventually purchased by Omani businessman Shirish Saraf who oversaw the vessel’s complete restoration in 2020.

Seeking to bring back to life the grandeur of a bygone Hollywood era, the interior layout of the 45.7-metre yacht was completely refitted including extensive changes to the saloon, master, and guest cabins. Internationally acclaimed interior designer Alessandro Ortezi integrated contemporary, elegant aesthetics, accented with gold against soft neutral tones and beautifully enhanced by ambient interior lighting. The exterior of the Kalizma was also transformed by the finest materials and skilled craftsmen. Extensive engineering work was undertaken as well, with all onboard electronic systems, including audio-visual and internet capabilities, replaced with the latest cutting-edge technology.

Having been through two world wars, and welcoming onboard an eclectic mix of guests including John Gielgud, Ringo Starr, Orson Welles and Prince Rainier III of Monaco and Princess Grace, for more than 100 years, this classic yacht still has many stories left to tell as it continues to sail the waters on a timeless journey.
