Cyprus and France sign 2024-2025 Defence Cooperation Programme

The Cyprus National Guard and the Armed Forces of France have signed a Bilateral Defence Cooperation Programme for the years 2024-2025.

According to an official press release, the programme provides for bilateral exercises, training and exchange of expertise on specialised issues of mutual interest both in Cyprus and in France.

It includes, inter alia, co-training in artillery, tactical unmanned aircraft, naval cooperation and deterrence, special and amphibious operations, civilian evacuation and search and rescue. It also foresees the participation of National Guard staff in specialised schools and seminars in France.

The programme is considered particularly beneficial, as it promotes interoperability, which is an essential element for conducting joint operations, the press release said. It added that the signing was tangible proof of the excellent relations between the two countries’ armed forces, as well as an indication of the intention to use every opportunity for a continuous expansion of cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.

The agreement is part of the bilateral and multilateral actions developed by the National Guard. It was signed at the Headquarters of the General Staff of the National Guard, by the National Guards' Colonel Alcibiades Alcibiades and the French armed forces Lieutenant-Colonel Matthieu De La Rochere.
