My Way: Totalserve’s George Economides shares his management style

The Vice Chairman of Totalserve Management Ltd, George Economides, encourages communication and transparency through an open-door policy and by being approachable.

He tries to inspire others and takes pride in the daily praise that he and his staff receive from clients. stepping outside his comfort zone has helped him throughout his career while, inspired by his father’s example, Economides avoids micromanaging. Outside work, travel is what truly relaxes his mind.

How would you describe your management style?

In recent times, managers have adopted a relaxed attitude, ditched the tie and encouraged communication and transparency through an open-door policy. This is my style too. A good manager should be approachable and able to inspire others to differentiate themselves from the ordinary.

What has influenced your leadership style the most?

I have been influenced by the ever-changing professional environment, the needs of our clients, our company culture and feedback from our people.

What has been your greatest professional achievement?

My greatest achievement? I prefer to celebrate the daily praise from our clients to both our staff and myself. One small win at a time!

What has helped you most throughout the course of your career?

Getting outside my comfort zone on multiple occasions and stepping up when needed, even in the most uncomfortable of situations, are what have helped me greatly throughout my career.

What is the biggest/most frequent mistake that managers make?

Micromanaging is one of the biggest mistakes that managers make. Not only is a great amount of energy wasted but it reflects badly on your people and their professional development.

Who is the object of your professional admiration?

The one person I admire most is none other than my father, Peter G. Economides.

How do you achieve a healthy balance between life at work and at home?

A truly healthy work/life balance is something which I am continuously striving to achieve!

How do you relax?

I prefer to relax my mind rather than my body and this, for me, only happens through travel.

What are your favourite pastimes?

In addition to travel, I always enjoy going for a nice motorcycle ride!

George Economides is the Vice Chairman of Totalserve Management Ltd, an award-winning international corporate services provider, headquartered in Limassol. He is also a partner at E & G Economides LLC, a full-service law firm. He works frequently with HNWIs, international law firms and associates, providing advice on restructurings, investments, acquisitions and disposals of intangible assets and real estate. He also represents and advises international companies and groups of companies that have relocated and set up their headquarters in Cyprus, including those involved in shipping, e-commerce, investment, financial services and real estate.
