Interior Minister to discuss migration with his Spanish counterpart in Madrid

Minister of the Interior Constantinos Ioannou will discuss the migration issue in Madrid with his Spanish counterpart, Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez.

According to a press release issued by the Interior Ministry, during their 7 November meeting the two Ministers will review the current situation with regard to migration and will examine ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries for more effective management of the increased flows of irregular migrants, both in the framework of the MED5 Group and the European Union bodies. The two Ministers will also discuss other issues that fall within the competencies of the two Ministries.

Ioannou is visiting Madrid to inaugurate the Press and Information Office photographic exhibition entitled "ELLE - Woman in Antiquity", which is organised in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Spain, at the Circulo de Bellas Artes Cultural Centre.

Moreover, Ioannou will address the Forum on "Democratic Quality - Challenges of democracy in the 21st century", as part of a series of events under the general title "Futuro Europa", organised by the Circulo de Bellas Artes Cultural Centre and the Coordination Office for the Spanish Presidency of the EU.

The Interior Minister returns to Cyprus on Wednesday 8 November.
