President welcomes approval of state budget

President Nikos Christodoulides has welcomed the House of Representatives’ approval of the annual state budget for 2024.

"The approval of the state budget for 2024 by the plenary of the Parliament is an act of responsibility and constitutes a point of reference in the Government's effort for the development of the country and the well-being of the citizens," the President said in a written statement.

He said the first budget of his administration reflects the non-negotiable commitment to a "sound, sustainable and secure fiscal management". He noted that it is a developmental, surplus budget that maintains the necessary fiscal responsibility and creates hope and prospects.

According to Christodoulides, the budget includes measures and policies that effectively support the vulnerable groups of the population and at the same time strengthen the middle class, households and businesses, improve health services, upgrade the education system and improve the quality of life of citizens. The management of issues such as the reduction of energy costs, the coverage of housing needs and the holistic treatment of immigration are key pillars of the policies being promoted and which have already yielded significant results, he added.

In addition, he expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the approval of the state budget, with such a large number of positive votes, is tangible proof that the Government seeks and can achieve a broad political consensus, "to the benefit of the people and our country".
