President expresses solidarity with Czech Republic after Prague attack

President Nikos Christodoulides expressed the solidarity of the Republic of Cyprus with the people of the Czech Republic following the deadly attack in Prague on 21 December, in a post on platform X.

"At this shocking, painful moment, we stand firmly in solidarity with the Czech Republic and its people. Heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the vicious attack at Prague’s Charles University," the President said.

In another post on X, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said he was deeply shocked by the terrible shooting at Charles University in Prague.

The Minister conveyed his “heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims" and wished "speedy recovery to the injured”.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of Cyprus in the Czech Republic has contacted the Cypriot organised students in Prague and no injuries have been reported so far, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Theodoros Gotsis told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

He was asked about the incident which left several dead and injured after a shooting took place in Charles University in Prague.

Gotsis said the Embassy remains in contact and there will be more updates and information if needed.
