Delors was a giant of European politics, Christodoulides, Demetriou say

Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, has described former President of the European Commission Jacques Delors, who passed away on 27 December at the age of 98, as a giant of European politics.

In a post on the X platform, the President said that Delors was a true visionary for a more united and integrated EU and the founding father of the single market.

He further noted that Delors laid the foundation for the monetary union. ''Never has his legacy and vision for an 'ever closer EU' been more pertinent and valuable for our Union'', Cyprus' President said.

Meanwhile, also commenting on the death of former Commission Head Jacques Delors, Cyprus House President Annita Demetriou said, the EU has lost one of its most authentic visionaries and architects of modern European integration.

In a post on X, she said that ''We honor the memory of Jacques Delors, the iconic figure who shaped the European vision and embodied European integration''.

''Our minimal obligation is to continue his legacy'', Demetriou noted.
