Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry to vote in new president

The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry is poised to select its new leader as part of its Monday, 4 December Annual General Meeting in Nicosia.

The new leader will take the mantle from Christodoulos Angastiniotis, who will have completed six years and two consecutive terms as president.

As part of the Chamber's 96th AGM this afternoon, the 105-member electorate will select the next president, as well as the five vice-presidents, for the next three years.

The presidency of the CCCI is contested by the former president of the Larnaca Chamber Stavros Stavrou and one of the vice-presidents of the CCCI, the president of the Association of Large Investment Projects, Andreas Demetriades.

The 105 electors who will vote for the new leadership of the Cyprus Chamber come from the five local Chambers, as follows: 24 members from Nicosia, 21 from Limassol, 20 from Famagusta, 20 from Paphos and 20 from Larnaca.

It is recalled that today's 96th annual general meeting was preceded by the annual general meetings of the local Chambers, during which their new Boards of Directors were elected.

The annual general meeting of CCCI will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia, with the standard part of the proceedings (open only to members) starting at 5pm.

The agenda includes the approval of the annual report and the auditors' report for 2022, as well as the appointment of auditors and the determination of their remuneration.

The celebratory part that will follow, at 7pm, includes a speech by outgoing president Angastiniotis and a greeting by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.

‘Battling’ for the presidency

The presidency of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as mentioned above, is contested by Stavros Stavrou and Andreas Demetriades, who in recent interviews they gave to InBusinessNews ahead of the election process, explained the reasons why they are standing as candidates and gave an indication of how they intend to lead of the Chamber if they are elected.

Stavros Stavrou gave the promise that in the event of his election, he will work hard with all his partners to achieve the ultimate goal, which, as he stated, is a strong economy through well-intentioned business for a prosperous society.

On his part, Andreas Demetriades emphasised that if elected, he would ensure the Chamber work methodically and effectively, so that business activity moves in an institutional framework without obstacles, absolutely transparent, stable and above all, internationally competitive.

The process of electing the new leadership of the Chambe will take place before the celebratory part of tonight's annual general meeting, with the next president and the other members of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, taking office at a time when the challenges for the economy and the business world of Cyprus remain great.
