MiRACULOUS programme awarded €200K RIF Grant

Theramir Ltd, a pioneering Limassol-based biotech startup specialising in cutting-edge oncology solutions, has announced the signing of the groundbreaking MiRACULOUS research programme.

This initiative, backed by the Research and Innovation Foundation under the RESTART 2016-2020 initiative, is funded by the European Union's NextGenerationEU and the Republic of Cyprus, with a generous grant of €200,000 over two years, an announcement from the biotech startup notes.

According to its creators, MiRACULOUS – standing for "MicroRNA-based Innovative Formulations for the Regulation And Control of Oncological Unhealing Sores" – addresses the urgent need for effective treatments for malignant wounds in oncology patients, which pose a substantial medical and economic challenge globally. The programme aims to harness the potential of extracellular vesicles derived from mesenchymal stem cells, in synergy with the regenerative properties of atelocollagen-based hydrogels combined with natural extracts, to deliver therapeutic microRNAs directly to wound sites. This aligns with the Cyprus S3Cy's Smart Specialisation Areas, furthering public health and enhancing quality of life.

Dr. Marianna Prokopi-Demetriades coordinates this venture, in partnership with Promed Bioscience, RSL Revolutionary Labs, and VetEx Machina. "MiRACULOUS epitomises the fusion of innovation and empathy," stated Dr. Prokopi-Demetriades. "We are committed to transforming advanced research into real-world health benefits, advancing the frontiers of oncology care and patient healing." The expertise of the consortium spans biotechnology, skin health, oncology, and regenerative medicine, marking a crucial leap toward innovative healthcare solutions. The official signing ceremony symbolises the start of this promising collaboration, uniting these dynamic forces in the field of biotech.
