President Christodoulides to meet Greek FM, political leaders and Archbishop in Athens

President Nikos Christodoulides is continuing his official visit to Greece.
He will hold meetings with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, the political leaders of the Greek parliamentary parties, as well as the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos today, Tuesday, 14 March.
President Christodoulides was scheduled to meet with the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias at around 8a.m.
Later on he will hold a meeting with the leader of the main opposition party in Greece, SURIZA, Alexis Tsipras.
At 09:50 a.m., the President of the Republic of Cyprus is anticipated to have a meeting with the President of PASOK - Change Movement Nikos Androulakis and at 10:25 with the Secretary General of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbas.
Afterwards, at 11:00 a.m. he is expected to meet with the President of Elliniki Lysi Kyriakos Velopoulos and at 11:35 with the Secretary of MP25 Yanis Varoufakis.
Finally, at 13:00 the President of the Republic of Cyprus is scheduled to meet with the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos.
On Monday, 13 March, Christodoulides held meetings with the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of the Hellenic Parliament Konstantinos Tasoulas.
During Monday’s consultations with the political and state leadership of Greece, special emphasis was given on the President’s proposal for a more active involvement of the EU in the efforts for a Cyprus solution – a proposal which the Greek Prime Minister stressed that Athens intend to actively support.
Moreover, focus was placed on further strengthening the already excellent cooperation and coordination of relations between the two countries. To this end, the Cypriot President and the Greek Prime Minister announced yesterday, during their joint statements, the establishment of a Supreme Council for Intergovernmental Cooperation.
Part of the agenda of Nikos Christodoulides' meetings was also coordination between Athens and Nicosia on the Cyprus problem and on wider European issues, in view of the forthcoming European Council.
Regional developments and the multilateral cooperation schemes in which Greece and Cyprus participate were also discussed, with emphasis given on the two countries’ common goal to act as pillars of stability and security in the region.
In this context, Christodoulides' consultations in Athens also examined the prospects of Greece and Cyprus contributing in the European efforts to decouple from Russian gas, through their constructive role in the region of the Eastern Mediterranean.
