Berengaria: This is what the newly-renovated legendary hotel will look like (pics)

The “Jewel of Prodromos”, “Queen of Troodos”, “Hotel of Kings”… these are just a few of the monikers used over the decades to describe the legendary Berengaria hotel on the island’s biggest mountain range, which is about to get a new lease of life.

The rebirth of the Berengaria Hotel, which is currently under renovation with the addition of a luxury residential complex, is expected to upgrade the region’s tourism product with the addition of an integrated mountain resort.

In images obtained by InBusinessNews, the aim of bringing the Berengaria back to its former glory is clear to see. The Development Director of real estate developer bbf:, Andreas Siamtanis, previously told InBusinessNews that the aim was to restore the Berengaria’s reputation as the “Hotel of Kings”.

bbf: is bringing the emblematic hotel back to life, making sure to preserve the listed building’s familiar exterior while giving its interior a more modern feel. It will be a mixed development, offering hotel rooms, a modern spa and pool area, as well as a residential development with apartments and houses that tie in with the surrounding environment. With construction work proceeding at a fast pace, it is expected to give a much needed boost, not just to the Prodromos community but also the broader Troodos mountain region.

The Berengaria Hotel is one of Cyprus’ most historical and famous hotels, playing host to many important figures including kings and presidents of state during its heyday. It first opened in 1928, after being designed by Henrik Clark and constructed by Michalis Kokkalos. It was closed down in 1984 after 53 years of successful operation. The property was re-sold a number of times but previous renovation plans somehow fell through. That is until 2020, when bbf: purchased the hotel to bring it back to its former glory.
