The vision and architectural approach for Larnaka Land of Tomorrow – the development and conversion of the town’s northern coastal front into a bustling attraction – were presented on Monday by Petrolina Group along with the Foster + Partners architectural firm, in cooperation with UDS Architects and under the coordination of Delfi Partners & Co.

The presentation was given by Ben Scott, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners, at Petrolina’s headquarters in Larnaka and was attended by state and local administration officials as well as the local press. Attendees were then taken on a tour of the area that is going to be developed.

As Scott explained, the main source of inspiration for Land of Tomorrow is the town’s rich history and the main elements that define Larnaka. “Our ambition for the masterplan of Land of Tomorrow is to create a landmark development that will be an extension of the town, while maintaining and enhancing its most important features,” said Scott.

“Larnaka’s heritage, natural environment and its relationship with the sea are one of its main elements. The aim of Land of Tomorrow is to create a fresh, sustainable, mixed-use coastal development that will be a catalyst towards further rejuvenating the town and broader region,” he added.

He added that the general masterplan is characterised by a strict environmental and ecological approach, sustainability, a prevalence of green and open areas, accessibility to modern infrastructure and connecting Larnaka to the surrounding regions.

Addressing the event, Petrolina’s Executive Chairman, Costakis Lefkaritis, said: “Foster + Partners along with our associates have shared our vision and aspirations for Land of Tomorrow to be created with respect to the environment, the people and town of Larnaka.”

The Group’s CEO, Dinos Lefkaritis, welcomed everyone to what he described as an “historic presentation”, saying: “Land of Tomorrow will be a landmark, both for Larnaka and Cyprus as a whole, attracting young people and businesses from all over. This is what Larnaka deserves, which is why we have invested in a strong team of associates to implement our legacy for the generations to come.”

The Mayor of Larnaka, Andreas Vyras, said he was pleased to see the project being implemented, while he thanked Petrolina, saying that Land of Tomorrow is fully aligned with the municipality’s growth plans for the town.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Costas Koumis, also welcomed the new development, saying it is not just a huge and remarkable project, but also one that is moving in the direction of sustainable growth. “We too share the Petrolina Group’s vision to attempt to turn the town of Larnaka into perhaps the best city in Cyprus,” said Koumis. “We are happy to hear that a healthy competition is being developed between towns-destinations, because at the end of the day, the result will be a much better Cyprus.”
