Dr Elikkos Elia: Lands & Surveys Dept. fully operational next week

The Department of Lands and Surveys is expected to be fully operational again at some point next week, as it still tries to overcome the cyberattack it suffered on 8 March.

The update was given by the department’s director, Dr Elikkos Elia, during the 17th Real Estate & Construction Conference & Exhibition in Nicosia on Wednesday.

According to Elia, the department had been setting up a new platform over the past few months, which is already operational. “Today, it is operating with the static information and by next week, we will be fully operational. The data we have is what we managed to retrieve. We checked that it was ok, we cleared any viruses from our servers and we hope that by next week we will be fully operational. Thankfully, the data hasn’t been damaged in any way.”

Elia said the department had learned from this experience. “We will be better and we will take the necessary measures to boost security,” he said, adding that the aim was to turn the Department into a one-stop-shop with zero use of paper, now that it is becoming digital.
