'LOVE CYPRUS' competition by Yianis Christodoulou Foundation

With the aim of providing opportunities to promote the taking of initiatives for students' creative expression through photographic art, traditional dance, the creation of short films and creative writing, 'Yianis Christodoulou Foundation' is proceeding to hold a Cyprus-wide competition.

Following the successful organization of many other competitions, the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation is back with the announcement of this new competition, entitled 'LOVE CYPRUS'. As a part of the competition, prizes of a total value of €170,000 will be given to the winning schools. Specifically, through the initiatives that will be undertaken, the students will undertake the role of new creators in order to promote the tradition, culture, music, dance and art of the community and region in which they live, through a very short film that will present a traditional/folk dance lasting one minute and by taking of a photo that will capture nature, tradition, culture and the customs of the country. The result of their creations are estimated to be a pole of attraction for tourists-visitors in Cyprus.

The above will be accompanied by a 10-word slogan to attract the interest of visiting tourists and a very short 100-word text to provide background information about the photo or dance to be featured. It is noted that all the creations that will be submitted with the motto 'LOVE CYPRUS', should promote Cyprus, not only as a summer tourist destination, but also as a country characterized by its great tradition and culture, hospitality, arts, customs, natural wealth, etc.

The competition is open to students attending public primary, secondary or technical schools during the academic year 2022-23. The above students are eligible to enter the competition as representatives of their school. Entry into the competition is entirely voluntary and may be by individual students, or by groups and each school unit has the right to send a total of six entries/creations (three photos and three videos with the dance).

The prize money will be used for the implementation of projects (e.g. infrastructure, renovation, purchase of equipment) in each school, based on the approval of the proposal submitted. Each proposal will be discussed and amended, if necessary, in consultation with all the competition stakeholders, including MOEC, Directorate of Primary Education, School Board, Technical Services of MOEC etc. and will be implemented once all approvals have been issued. The above is deemed necessary, since in addition to the submission of the projects, each school unit should also submit a 'Prize Utilization Plan'.

According to the competition regulations, the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation will award 6 prizes, three for each of the two categories with a total amount of €170.000 (one hundred and seventy thousand euro) which will be awarded as follows: First Prize €50,000, Second Prize €25,000 and Third Prize €10,000. The final stage of the competition for the 6 finalists to be awarded (3 in each category), as well as, the official award ceremony will be organized on the 3rd April 2023 in Limassol, in the presence of well-known artists such as Constantinos Argyros who will perform live.

The deadline for submitting entries is Friday, 10 March, 2023.
