Larnaca-Piraeus ferry link to offer a further boost to local travel industry

The rapidly growing town of Larnaca’s decision to become involved in the island’s ferry service to Greece was a strategic one. The Larnaca-Piraeus / Limassol-Piraeus combination this summer is expected to give further impetus to the line, which has been described as one of the Deputy Shipping Ministry’s biggest success stories of 2022.

Speaking to InBusinessNews, the General Manager of Kition Ocean Port, Paris Dimitriou, said: “We are preparing the entire infrastructure to host the new service. It is something the port, and I think the town of Larnaca, needed. We will provide all the necessary services in order to offer an additional alternative.”

The contract with Scandro Holding allows for the use of either the port of Limassol or that of Larnaca, or both, for the ferry link.

Dimitriou said the new connection from Larnaca will launch in early August, with weekly trips on Wednesdays and weekends until mid-September.

As regards ticket prices, these have yet to be decided; though they are not expected to be much different from those applied in Limassol.

“We would like to say that Larnaca is here and the port is ready to offer its services for the ferry link with Greece,” said Dimitriou.

The new connection, especially over the peak summer season, is expected to have a positive impact on the town’s economy. It will also offer more options to travellers from districts closer to Larnaca while opening the way for healthier competition across the travel and tourism sector, what with the investments made by the operating companies in infrastcture to improve the services on offer.

This Friday, 10 March, Kition Ocean Port, the Municipality of Larnaca, the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Larnaca Tourism Board will present all the details for the new Larnaca-Piraeus ferry link at a press conference.
