Freedom Finance Europe to sponsor FIDE Women's Grand Prix event in Cyprus

Freedom Finance Europe, the European division of Freedom Holding Corp., will sponsor the fourth and decisive stage of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix, which will be held in Cyprus under the auspices of the Cyprus Chess Federation on 15-28 May.

This is the first time that Cyprus will host a major international chess event, which will open a new chapter in the Republic’s sporting history.

The event is an important outcome of the Freedom Holding Corp. and International Chess Federation (FIDE) partnership, aimed at promoting chess and developing new talents in the next generation of chess players.

“We are proud of our partnership with FIDE and are delighted to be supporting a leading global chess tournament in Cyprus, where Freedom Holding Corp.'s European division is headquartered. We sincerely wish success to all participants. I am sure that we will see many beautiful and interesting games,” said Evgeniy Tyapkin, Executive Director of Freedom Finance Europe.

FIDE Director General Emil Sutovsky noted that “holding chess competitions in countries that have never or long time ago held the highest-level tournaments is one of FIDE’s goals, and thanks to the support of Freedom Finance Europe, for the first time in chess history, we could organize a tournament in the Republic of Cyprus.”

Criton Tornaritis, President of the Cyprus Chess Federation, welcomed the decision to hold the competition in Cyprus: “We work behind the scenes and are very excited to see this event coming to Cyprus. I want to highlight the perfect alignment between FIDE, the Cyprus Chess Federation, and the sponsor, Freedom Holding Corp. We look forward to expanding this cooperation to our future projects”.

Twelve competitors will participate in the Women's Grand Prix, which will be attended by a chess legend and five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand.

The event will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Cyprus’ capital, Nicosia.
