Antonis Antoniou re-elected to OEB helm

Antonis Antoniou, Executive Chairman of Vassiliko Cement Works, has been re-elected Chairman of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) at its annual general meeting in Nicosia.

The 25 April vote means that Antoniou will lead OEB for the next two years, until 2025.

This will be Antoniou’s second term as OEB’s Chairman and so, in line with the federation’s constitution, will also be his last.

Pavlos Paradisiotis, the Managing Director of Paradisiotis Group, had also run for the chairmanship.

A new Executive Committee has also been elected, consisting of 20 people, 15 elected members, three positions by ex officio participation, and two filled with appointments that will follow. There were reportedly 23 candidates, prominent figures from the Cypriot business scene, running for the 15 seats on the committee; 126 members of OEB’s Board of Directors have the right to vote. The new committee’s term expires in 2027.

Antonis Antoniou

Antonis Antoniou was born in London. He studied at the University of London where he obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Biology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science.

Antoniou worked for five years as a Biochemist at University College London and for three years as a Computer Systems Analyst at British Gas Headquarters in London. He was a founding partner of AMER World Research Ltd and Deputy General Manager from 1983 until 1998. From 1998 until December 2006 he served as Senior Vice President (Operations and Systems) of Nielsen Europe and was a member of the European Executive Committee.

As from February 2008 he has been the Executive Chairman of Vassiliko Cement Works Public Company Limited. From August 2017 until December 2019 he undertook the additional role of the Chief Executive Officer of the Company.

He is also a member of the board of Latomia Latouros Limited, Enerco - Energy Recovery Ltd, and Enerco - Energy Recovery Ltd.

He has been a Member of the Board of Directors of OEB since July 2011 and Member of its Executive Committee since December 2013. From January 2019 until December 2020 he was Vice-Chairman, first becoming Chairman in January 2021.

CCCI to elect a new president also

Meanwhile, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is also about to elect a new chairman after its current, Christodoulos Angastiniotis, waived his right to continue for a second, three-year term.

The CCCI’s election will take place in December this year, with potential candidates expected to start expressing interest from September onwards.

Regarding the procedure, the electoral body consists of 105 people, from the five local Chambers – 24 members from Nicosia, 21 from Limassol, 20 from Famagusta, 20 from Paphos and 20 from Larnaca. Only CCCI members can run for election.
