Absolute Institute of Technical Education launches operation
07:00 - 08 April 2023
The Absolute Institute of Technical Education (AITE), the new branch of the Public School of Higher Vocational Education and Training (MIEEK), has officially launched operation in Limassol.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the new school will further reinforce the local vocational education and training system, and add value to the overall higher education system. AITE was a donation by the Absolute Charitable Trust to the Republic of Cyprus and was inaugurated by former President Nicos Anastasiades, back in November 2022.
The new school’s building is what really stands out, with its unique and pioneering architectural design, modern infrastructure, latest technology equipment and beautiful surroundings. The building was designed to provide functional space, suitably equipped workshops to meet the needs of multiple study programmes, host events, but also create a pleasant environment with a view over Limassol and of the sea. The building is in a prime location, easily accessible to other towns.
AITE will offer a large number of educational and training programmes, with morning as well as afternoon classes. These include but are not limited to: Bakery – Confectionery; Culinary Arts; Catering Arts; Industrial and Home Automation; Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Installations; Automotive Engineering; Computer and Communications Networks; Organic Horticultural Crops; Industrial Technician; Dairy farming – Cheese making; CNC Technology - Woodworking Industry; Supply Chain Management and Maritime Studies.
MIEEK offers study programmes aimed at boosting scientific, technical and professional knowledge and skills, and are flexible and adaptable to the ever changing labour market and economy. They are aimed at helping people join the labour market smoothly, with emphasis on developing digital and green skills, as well as the use of new technologies. Impressively, since it was certified back in 2017, 100% of MIEEK’s graduates became employed in Industry.
It is quite significant that AITE is opening in the European Year of Skills 2023. In her annual speech back in September, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen once again highlighted the shortage of skills in Europe, which must finally be overcome with a major effort to be implemented immediately. "We need much more focus in our investment on professional education and upskilling," said von der Leyen, "but we also have to attract the right skills to our continent, skills that help companies and strengthen Europe's growth". She added, “The lack of staff is a challenge for Europe's companies. We must invest much more in training and further education. This is why I am proposing to make 2023 the European Year of Skills".
