My Way: Trident Trust Cyprus’ Andreas Mercouri shares his management style

Micromanagement has no place in Andreas Mercouri’s management style. The Managing Director of Trident Trust Cyprus is always eager to learn from others and maintaining a work – life balace is a must for him. Mercouri values his relationships with others and he strives to bring out the best in them.

How would you describe your management style?

My management style can be described as anything but micromanagement! It is all about bringing out the best in people, providing guidance and support where necessary, and maintaining a high level of respect and confidence at all levels.

What has influenced your leadership style the most?

Having experienced several management styles during the course of my career, I chose to adopt the one I believe to be the best and most suitable. With the number of challenges faced in the industry over the last 10 years or so, there is always the need to adapt and further improve one’s management style.

What is the biggest/most frequent mistake that managers make?

Many managers fall into the trap of thinking that they know or should know everything. Successful managers are those who accept that even they need to continue to learn and accept support and guidance from others.

What has been your greatest professional achievement?

My greatest professional achievement -limiting my response to my time in Cyprus- I would say successfully steering the Company through the challenges of the 2013 banking/financial crisis, handling the uncertainty caused by the global pandemic and having to redefine, to a large extent the way we work.

What has helped you most throughout the course of your career?

Relationships are key. Not only within your management team and Company as a whole, but also with all relevant stakeholders. No one person can know everything or do everything themselves!

How do you achieve a healthy balance between life at work and at home?

I use my commute time to either plan and organize the day ahead or more importantly to unwind at the end of each day before reaching home. I also never discuss work at home. You must always find time for your personal life! If there is a will, there is always a way!

How do you relax? What are your favourite pastimes?

I am lucky enough to live ten minutes away from the beautiful beaches of Protaras. Spending time at the beach, especially with the children is my favourite pastime.
