GOLD New Issue - The Limassol Issue

What makes a great city? One could argue that it all comes down to the harmonious symbiosis of the public and private realms in an urban environment that can support and enhance both equally. After all, the way we shape a city is a manifestation of the kind of humanity that lives in it and creating sustainable, manageable human spaces in the world’s ever-expanding cities is a challenge for local and national authorities and city residents all over the world.

Here in Cyprus, the city of Limassol keeps on growing, evolving and flourishing. It is the location of choice for foreign investors coming to Cyprus, a safe harbour for the island’s shipping sector, and a tech playground for local and international industry players. Once again, GOLD welcomes the first month of the upcoming summer season with an issue dedicated to the city of Limassol, in which we look at how it has changed over the years, assess the brilliant prospects that lie ahead, and examine the challenges that need to be faced decisively. We present interviews with Andreas Tsouloftas, President of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Valentinos Polykarpou, Chairman of TechIsland, and Nicos Nicolaides, Mayor of Limassol. In addition, we have updated and revised our list (from 2021) of more than 300 Limassol-based companies that have either earned a reputation for excellence and profitability or have maintained and developed a significant presence in the city. The list includes businesses of all different sizes from a variety of sectors, that have made a major contribution to the local and national economy.

In addition to this and all of GOLD’s regular features, this issue also includes exclusive interviews with Melina Pyrgou, Managing Director of the Pyrgou Vakis Law Firm, who talks about gender inequality and the rapidly changing legal environment; Alex Kelaiditis, co-founder of the factoring and cash flow management fintech FlexFin, who discusses why factoring has emerged as the core financing tool for SMEs in Cyprus and Greece; and Dimitri Thomas, International Operations Director at Acsion Ltd, the South African company behind the Metropolis Mall in Larnaca. Furthermore, Yangos Hadjiyannis (CEO, CIM-Cyprus Business School) and Allison Wheeler-Héau (Director of Open Programmes, Cambridge Judge Business School) introduce a new, exciting collaboration between the two institutions.

All this and more in Issue 147 of GOLD magazine, out on Sunday, 18 June.
