Employment in the Central Government rose by 120 persons (0.2%) and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 170 persons (3.0%). On the other hand, Local Authorities witnessed a slight decrease of 16 persons (-0.4%) in their workforce.

When compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, the employment figures in the Broad Public Sector saw a marginal increase of 134 persons (0.2%). There was a notable increase in employment within Non-Profit Organisations, which observed a growth of 19.8% and 19.1% compared with the first and fourth quarters of 2022, respectively. This substantial surge can be attributed to the transfer of Hourly Paid Workers from the Ministry of Health, a government entity, to the State Health Services Organisation, a Non-Profit Organisation, effective January 2023.

In the first quarter of 2023, total employment in the Broad Public Sector reached 72,730 individuals. The employment figures encompassed both the General Government and Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies, with 66,917 and 5,813 persons employed, respectively.

Within the General Government, which comprises the Government, Non-Profit Organisations, and Local Authorities, total employment stood at 52,020, 10,598, and 4,299 persons, respectively.
