11:48 - 16 June 2023
A high-ranking delegation from Thailand-based Praboromarajchanok Institute of Public Health will be visiting Cyprus on 19-21 June to meet with the Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) and exchange best practices in policies related to thalassaemia.
TIF said in a press release that there will be an exchange of best practices, experiences and knowledge between the two countries in matters of health policies related to haemoglobinopathies and thalassaemia. The groups will also discuss Cyprus’ internationally renowned programme for the prevention, control and management of thalassaemia, which the country has been successfully implementing for decades.
Thailand has a particularly high number of thalassaemia patients and controlling and treating the disease is among the national health authorities’ top priorities.
The Praboromarajchanok Institute is a university-level higher education institute operating under the administration of the Ministry of Public Health with the ultimate goal of creating professional potential in all areas of public health, including nursing, communicable and non-communicable disease policies, the environment, research etc.
The delegation will hold meetings with officials from the Ministry of Health, the Blood Centre, the Thalassaemia Centres in Nicosia and Limassol, the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, and the School of Medicine and Nursing of the University of Nicosia and Cyprus University of Technology.
A press conference will be held on 21 June in the presence of Health Minister Popi Kanari, during which a Memorandum of Collaboration will be signed.
