Epic celebrated European Maritime Day with a beach clean-up

In the context of its strategy to make a practical contribution to reversing climate change and creating a more sustainable world for future generations, Epic held a beach clean-up at Mackenzie Beach in Larnaca, on the occasion of 'European Maritime Day' which is celebrated on 20 May every year.

In collaboration with the Non-Profit Organisation AKTI, more than 30 executives of the company put on their gloves and collected a significant amount of trash from the beach, providing their own small contribution to the efforts made to protect marine life and ecosystem.

Beaches serve as a bridge between land and sea, which makes them vulnerable to the accumulation of litter and pollutants from human activities. Epic, as a leading organisation, acknowledges the importance of keeping beaches free from plastic items, cigarette butts, fishing gear, and other litter that pose serious threats to marine life, and encourages regular clean-ups to keep beaches clean and foster environmental awareness.

Epic's employees are used to taking some time off to participate collectively in actions related to environmental protection. Recently, volunteers from all departments of the company, in collaboration with the Department of Forests and the Cyprus Forest Association, participated together in tree planting in an underdeveloped area in Ayia Napa. Their aim was to contribute to the afforestation of the area and the creation of a new small forest that will significantly increase biodiversity, promote the safety of adjacent human activities and beautify the region.

At the same time, Epic has embedded ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in all its activities –in its internal processes, in its products and services– as Sustainable Development is part of the everyday life of every modern and competitive company.

An important pillar of Epic’s ESG actions is the adoption of hybrid systems for the power supply of its Mobile Telephony Base Stations, with the aim of reducing fuel and promoting renewable energy sources. The hybrid system used by Epic combines the technology of using renewable energy (photovoltaic systems) with energy storage technology (state-of-the-art battery system). With its investment in renewable energy for the power supply of its Mobile Telephony Base Stations, Epic has achieved a reduction in fossil fuel emissions of more than 70%. The company’s long-term goal is to wean itself off oil usage and replace it with green energy.

Maintaining its commitment to green growth and respect for the environment, Epic will continue through various initiatives to actively contribute to creating a better world.
