Faneromeni '23 Art Festival – “The tradition is us”

With the aim of highlighting the diversity of the island's intangible cultural heritage, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation opens this year's FANEROMENI23 Arts Festival on Thursday 22 June with the music concert "Thalassa mou, esi..."

The Greek mezzo-soprano Betty Harlafti will "raise waves" of songs from different places, eras, genres and composers, in a unique concert with an ethnic character, dedicated to the songs born around the Mediterranean.

The performer that completes this music duo is the dynamic young and talented Cypriot singer Frederiki Tombazou, who, together with a group of virtuoso musicians, will set sail for an exclusive musical journey to historic Mediterranean ports.

The concert will include songs such as the traditional melody of "Misirlou", lost in the depths of Egypt, traditional songs from Smyrna, as well as rebetika songs developed as a mixture of East and West ("Menexedes and Zouboulia", "Gulbahar"), the Cypriot "Triantafylleni", the Portuguese "Madradeus" and "O'Pastor", "Beautiful City" by our Mikis Theodorakis and the classics "La vie en rose" and "Non, je ne regrette rien" by the French singer and actress Edith Piaf. Visitors will also enjoy hits such as "Historia de un amor" by Almodovar's muse Luz Casal, songs from Southern Italy ("Andra mou paei"), "Viva Sevilla" from Spain, gypsy music and songs by Goran Bregovic, Zülfü Livaneli, Thanos Mikroutsikos and other modern Greek artists and composers.
