Cyprus to host European Regulators for Postal Services Plenary Session

Cyprus will host the Plenary Session of the European Regulators Group for Postal Services on Friday, 23 June.

The Session is taking place at the coastal city of Larnaca and it is considered to be a great event both in importance and in the number of participants.

The Plenary will discuss and take decisions on a number of key and important issues including the needs of modern consumers, the future European Regulatory Framework, the sustainability of Universal Providers, environmental protection, and the European Regulation for cross-border parcel deliveries.

The ERGP Work Program for the coming year will also be discussed, as well as the future role and the appropriate adaptation of the Corps, given the fundamental changes resulting, mainly from the reduction of letter mail and the increase of parcel traffic.

The Plenary is chaired by the Cypriot Assistant Commissioner for Communications Petros Galides who has been elected to the Presidency of the Group for 2023.

The Office of the Commissioner for Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation as the host authority, has planned various events with the aim of promoting the culture and history of Cyprus.

The total number of participants in the Conference, including the heads of the Regulatory Authorities and their staffs, amounts to approximately one hundred people from the Member States of the European Union, the countries of the European Economic Area, and the candidate countries for membership.

The ERGP (European Regulators Group for Postal Services) is made up of the twenty-seven (27) National Regulatory Authorities of Postal Services of the European Union and of Regulatory Authorities of countries of the European Economic Area as well as Candidate countries for Accession.

It advises and assists the European Commission in the development of the internal market of postal services and in the uniform application of the Regulatory Framework in all Member States.
