Digital Europe: Digitisation is an integral part of EU security

The Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE, Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, stressed that digitisation was an integral part of EU security, addressing the 2nd CITEA Digital Cyprus Conference 2023 on 22 June.

Referring to the current conditions and challenges in the digital market, Bonefeld-Dahl said European businesses and citizens need a modern environment that allows them to flourish thanks to digital technology. DIGITALEUROPE’s vision is to see Europe grow, attract and maintain the best digital talents and tech companies in the world, she added.

She said the organisation’s aim was to contribute to the implementation of relevant EU policies, saying that since 2019, DIGITALEUROPE has carved out policies that are based on flexibility and targeting.

For them to be a success, Europe must work as a team and create a common front, with cooperation between the member states, said Bonefeld-Dahl.

She also emphasised how important it is for governments to collaborate with the private sector, referring to the case of Ukraine where the private sector played a key role in the country’s digitisation.

“Digitisation is an integral part of European security,” she said, adding that AI technology is at the core of its digital evolution.

Cyprus, she said could become a leader in the region in AI and other technological advancements.
