President stresses need to "restart" sports sector

President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides has said that the sports sector needs a "restart" adding that it is imperative to proceed with the establishment of a Deputy Ministry of Sports.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the “Nasos Constantinou” training centre of Pafos FC, at Geroskipou on 7 June, the President referred to the need for the Cyprus Sports Organisation to evolve, to be modernised and better organised "if we want to move forward."

He also said that bad practices cannot be tolerated in sports adding that "we want and need clean sports, clean decisions and of course clean matches."

Already, he pointed out, the government is studying the country's sports map very carefully and through consultation with the civil society, any needs and omissions that exist in legislation, in sports facilities, in qualified human resources and departments, will be noted "so that we can all do a restart together in sports, something that our country needs".

The President referred to the training centre, describing it as a real jewel for Cyprus' sports, which will serve the needs of the academies, with the aim of bringing young people closer to sports.
