Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos begins contacts in New York on 10 July, with his meeting the following day with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other UN officials considered key in Nicosia’s bid to resume the UN-led reunification talks.
It comes six years after the last negotiating round in the Swiss resort of Crans Montana ended inconclusively.
An official press release said that during his stay in New York, Kombos will address an Economist Summit, on the sidelines of which he will meet with the US Assistant Secretary for energy resources, Geoffrey Pyatt, while he will also hold separate contacts with representatives of the Diaspora, as well with officials of the American-Jewish Committee and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
On 10 July, Kombos will deliver a speech titled “Reinforcing the 3+1 Alliance: Achieving its Potential” during the annual Economist “Eastern Mediterranean Business Summit”. On the sidelines of the summit, he will meet with US Assistant Secretary for energy resources Geoffrey Pyatt.
The FM will then be holding a series of meetings at the UN Headquarters.
On 11 July, Kombos will meet with UNSG Antonio Guterres, while he will hold separate meetings with Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean Pierre Lacroix and Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo. He will wrap his contacts at the UN Headquarters on 12 July with a meeting with Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel Migueal de Serpa Soares.
Kombos will also meet with representatives of the Diaspora, as well with officials of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
