Deputy Minister of Shipping meets with US Ambassador to Cyprus

Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanoli had a formal meeting with the US Ambassador to Cyprus Julie D. Fisher on 5 July.

According to an official announcement after the meeting, welcoming the Ambassador, Hadjimanoli expressed her warm wishes to Ambassador Fisher and the people of the USA, on the occasion of the celebration of the 247th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.

The Deputy Minister pointed out the excellent relations and excellent cooperation between the two countries in matters related to shipping and especially in the context of international organisations. Hadjimanoli referred to the excellent relations between Cyprus and the American delegation to the IMO, where there is constructive cooperation both in matters of security and protection, as well as in very important environmental issues.

During the meeting, topics such as blue growth, the effects of sanctions on Cypriot shipping, and the decarbonisation of shipping were discussed, among others, where both sides emphasised the importance of the commitment of the entire shipping industry, in the context of the 'Declaration on Zero Emission Shipping by 2050', which aims to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050, from activities in the shipping sector.

In closing, the Deputy Minister informed the USAmbassador about the holding of the "Maritime Cyprus 2023" Conference which will take place on 8-11 October 2023, and thanked her for the constructive meeting and the support so far, assuring the continuation and further development of the cooperation of the two parties, in the shipping sector.
