My Way: Green Energy Group’s George Georgiou shares his management style

George Georgiou, the CEO & Founder, Green Energy Group identifies as a human-centred visionary committed to forging strong communication channels among the group’s employees while prioritising their continuous professional growth.

Placing faith in the younger generation, he champions environmentally aware individuals. He finds the equilibrium between personal and professional life an ongoing negotiation, where the pivotal element for achieving balance lies in quality family time.

How would you describe your management style?

I would describe myself as a human-centred visionary, who strongly believes that the professionals making up a group can become partakers of the vision, taking a stand in decisions and their implementation.

What has influenced your leadership style the most?

The professionals working in our Group have had the greatest influence on me. Communicating and exchanging views with them has made me realise that only the interaction between professionals can enhance a company’s strategic development.

I trust the people who work in our Group; they are free to submit their concerns so that, in the spirit of teamwork, with mutual respect and without discrimination, we can move forward.

What has been your greatest professional achievement?

An achievement I would highlight is our participation in the Transitional Regulation of the Competitive Electricity Market since October 2022. Another important milestone is the expansion of the Green Energy Group’s photovoltaic parks network for the production and supply of energy to enterprises, which is taking an increasingly larger share of the market.

What has helped you most throughout the course of your career?

A beacon in my 20-year professional career is the motto ‘We move forward, one step at a time and steadily’ in the realisation of our goals.

What is the biggest/most frequent mistake that managers make?

The worst thing a manager can do is spend no time and share no knowledge with his team. Also, not forging healthy communication between team members, or not pursuing their continuous training through seminars and the development of their skills are huge mistakes.

Who is the object of your professional admiration?

I admire young professionals who are stubborn and willing to work hard to achieve their goals. I bow to the new generation that respects the environment, works with environmental awareness, and faithfully follows the ESG factors set by our Group for the sake of our country.

How do you achieve a healthy balance between life at work and at home?

The balance between professional and family life is a big chapter, which you have to negotiate every day, requiring constant effort and prioritisation. For me, spending quality time with the family is the key to balance.

How do you relax?

I like sharing moments with my family and good friends.

What are your favourite pastimes?

I could never imagine my life without the sea as I was born and raised in Limassol. As a football fan, I support my team by attending its matches when I have time.
