Maria Athanasiou addresses Cyprus Marine Club
12:43 - 20 September 2023
Cyprus Marine Club members recently attended a presentation by Maria Athanasiou, Founder of Athanasiou & Associates LLC and Managing Director of MASO Strategic.
An announcement from Cyprus Marine Club (CMC) following the event noted that Athanasiou & Associates LLC aspires to provide excellent services on legal matters. As a company focused on optimal results and insisting on the highest standards, it also cultivates long-term relationships with clients and develops a deep understanding of their needs. In combination with MASO, it helps small or well-established companies navigate the process of obtaining a license in Cyprus seamlessly from preparing the necessary documentation to liaising with the relevant authorities.
At the Tuesday, 19 September event, Athanasiou presented two case scenarios to the Members of the Club:
Criminal Incidents at Sea: Responding to Challenges and Minimizing Risks, in the course of which the legal frameworks, the importance of effective risk management and security; the importance of post-incident analysis and learning were discussed. The main objective of discussing this subject was to raise awareness of the risks associated with criminal incidents and provide practical guidance on how to respond to these incidents safely and effectively.
Maintaining Discipline on Board: Strategies for Effective Management, in the course of which the role of clear communication/ maintaining discipline on board, the importance of clear policies for disciplinary issues, and transparent disciplinary process were discussed. The main objective of the latter case scenario was guiding how to maintain a productive and safe environment on board.
After the presentation a few burning questions were raised by the audience, and interesting discussions followed throughout the evening, the CMC announcement noted.
Capt. E. Koch opened his welcome address to guests with a request to honour in silence Lia Papaiacovou who was a General Manager at OSM Group Ltd., and a Member of CMC and passed away earlier this month.
“Lia was a lady of great insight and personality, and her death is an unimaginable loss for her family, her colleagues, and the entire shipping community. Her bright mind and great heart are a shining example of what humanity is about... May she rest in peace,” he said.
A brief update shared membership numbers (164 on the day) and announced the participation of the Cyprus Marine Club in the Cyprus Maritime 2023 at Parklane Hotel from 08 - 11 October. Furthermore, the President invited guests to the CMC Reception coinciding with the Conference, with a guest speaker, Eric Montanios, Partner at Montanios & Montanios LLC.
The President has also reminded Members to register for the Wine & Dine Event on 30 September at Tsiakkas Winery. Last but not least he has announced the CMC Gala Dinner on 12 January 2024 at Four Seasons Hotel.
The CMC, meanwhile, also expressed its appreciation to Gazebo Mare Team for their excellent service in the announcement.
