Valērija Lieģe: Oaklins’ specialised solutions and experience in 45+ countries

Valērija Lieģe, Global Executive Committee Member of Oaklins International, presented the international mergers and acquisitions (M&A) firm’s specialised solutions during an event in Nicosia.

The event, dedicated to the M&A market, took place on 27 September at Pralina Experience and was attended by experts in the field who exchanged views with other business professionals in Cyprus.

During the presentation, Lieģe laid out the reasons that she said make Oaklins stand out in its sector. As she said, Oaklins consists of an international network of 850+ experts, with 60 offices in over 45 countries. It specialises in mergers and acquisitions of companies (sell-side and buy-side), capital development, debt advisory services and corporate finance services. It counts 6,500 deals in its portfolio as well as 500+ live mandates, while over 50% of its transactions are cross-border, which Lieģe said was very important as it meant Oaklins has the potential to bring even more foreign investors to Cyprus. She said Oaklins has carried out transactions and deals in Cyprus as well.

Lieģe said Oaklins’ three main pillars were: a passion to improve expertise, a dynamic approach with presence in the global market and a responsibility towards its clients.

At the same time, she said the firm counts many years of experience in 15 basic sectors and 25+ specialised sectors, including agriculture, health, energy, real estate, financial services and food and beverage.

A merger or acquisition can be beneficial to both sides, said Lieģe. She referred specifically to the acquisition of swimsuit company Orlebar Brown by Chanel.

Why would Chanel want to buy a swimsuit company, she wondered? It is because Orlebar Brown is very good at digital marketing and Chanel stands to gain a lot in this respect from the acquisition, she explained.
