Deputy Minister of Shipping and Chinese Ambassador discuss maritime issues

Bilateral matters and broader topics concerning the global shipping industry were discussed on in a meeting between Cyprus Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanolis, and Ambassador of China to Cyprus, Liu Yantao.

According to a press release from the Deputy Ministry, during the 6 September meeting, Marina Hadjimanolis highlighted the historical and close relations and the strong ties that connect the two countries. She expressed her desire to further strengthen these bonds.

Furthermore, she referred to the Maritime Agreement between the Republic of Cyprus and the government of China, which was signed in 1990 and came into effect in May 1991, and expressed her wish for its revitalisation.

Hadjimanolis also emphasised the outstanding cooperation between the two countries in matters related to shipping, particularly within international organisations. She pointed out the excellent relations between Cyprus and China within the International Maritime Organisation, where there is constructive cooperation and support.

On his part, according to the announcement, the Chinese Ambassador confirmed the robust ties between the two parties and expressed his desire, for both countries to continue working together to further strengthen their relations.

Finally, the Deputy Minister thanked Liu Yantao for the constructive meeting and issued him an invitation to participate in the "Maritime Cyprus 2023" Conference which will take place from 8 to 11 October 2023, in Limassol.
