Hundreds of prestigious guests at The TechIsland Awards 2023

Paying tribute to all those who are using their resources and influence to bring about real change in Cyprus’ communities, from education and social actions to policy reforms, the TechIsland Awards 2023 have begun.

CBN is on site to provide live coverage of the prestigious event throughout the evening, which has attracted hundreds of guests.

Taking place at the Parklane Resort & Spa in Limassol, the event started off with a welcome drink and an opportunity for guests to network, accompanied by DJ and live saxophone music.

After they took their seats, attendees were treated to rousing live drum music and an inspiring presentation by Stylianos Lambrou, Co-founder & CEO of Heart Group and a member of the TechIsland Board.

Lambrou noted that when he finished his studies in 2014, he was haunted by the question of whether to return to Cyprus or not. In the midst of a financial crisis at the time, the island was in a difficult financial position.

“Even then I believed in what we have seen come to life today, thankfully I was not the only one,” he continued, noting that he had never regretted the decision to return.

Noting that the tech sector had created a breath of fresh air, bringing ‘doers’ who, when seeing things that did not work, took action to change things.

This common conviction and Cyprus’ uniqueness have turned it into a top destination to live, work and play at.

As collaboration began to turn Cyprus into a tech hub, Lambrou continued, it was also maturing. He added that he was grateful to stand alongside people who had always believed in Cyprus and actively contributed to its future.

“Now 9 years after my own dilemma, young Cypriots have a reason to come back home, and not just them,” he continued, adding that the island was also attractive to international entrepreneurs, investors and more, who were choosing Cyprus, “because they know where the tech island is.”

The event’s emcees Melanie Steliou and Andreas Araouzos, meanwhile, went on to remind the guests that the evening was more than an occasion to praise ground groundbreaking technologies but also an opportunity to celebrate those who are building a better future for Cyprus.

The hosts also underlined that, the ICT sector in Cyprus had experienced exponential growth over the last few years thanks to the collective efforts of visionary individuals, innovative companies, and the support of the state.

The TechIsland Awards, they continued, are a tribute to all those who are using their resources and influence to bring about real change in communities whether through education, social actions, or even policy reforms.

Guests were also invited to take part in a prize draw for a weekend getaway with the all-electric BMW iX.
