City Friends Club wins Impact Driver prize at TechIsland Awards

President of Parliament, Annita Demetriou, Marios Giorgoudis, General Manager of TechIsland and Tanya Romanyukha Head of Operations of TechIsland, have presented the TechIsland Award’s Impact Driver prize to City Friends Club.

Paying tribute to all those who are using their resources and influence to bring real change in Cyprus’ communities, from education and social actions to policy reforms, the TechIsland Awards 2023 are taking place in Limassol.

CBN is on site to provide live coverage of the prestigious event throughout the evening.

The first prize of the evening, the Impact Driver prize recognises organizations or projects significantly impacting the local community, acting as a salute to those addressing Cyprus's most pressing social and environmental challenges.

Speaking ahead of the announcement of the winner, Romanyukha commented, “Tonight, we are truly honored to stand here with the President of the Parliament to present an award that recognises organisations or projects significantly impacting our local community. This award is a salute to those addressing Cyprus's most pressing social and environmental challenges”

As well as City Friends Club, the other nominees in the category were BrainRocket and KidIT Cyprus.

As noted by ceremony presenter Andreas Araouzos, the City Friends Club’s efforts have led to nearly every major international company on the island partnering with the organisation as it works to turn environmental responsibility into a mass movement, cleaning up Germasogeia, Agios Athanasios, and beyond.

It was noted that, last year alone, City Friends Club collected 156 tonnes of garbage, and through 14 volunteer events, rallied over 1300 volunteers.

Educating and influencing as well as cleaning, they've also initiated and led numerous awareness programmes, from school education to corporate eco quizzes, and they've even participated in large music festivals, integrating eco-friendly practices.

Anna Gubareva, accepting this award on behalf of City Friends Club, said, “Thank you for this prize. I would like not just to give thanks but to share this award with the people who support us, our sponsors, my family, all our volunteers, my team, from managers to cleaners who clean our street every day. Thank you for recognising our work, What is Limassol to you? For me, it is our actions, our every day habits. Let’s live consciously and make our home clean.”
