Civil Registry and Migration Department wins Game Changer prize at TechIsland Awards

The next award to be presented at the inaugural TechIsland Awards, in the category of Game Changer, has gone to The Civil Registry and Migration Department of the Ministry of Interior.

Paying tribute to all those who are using their resources and influence to bring real change in Cyprus’ communities, from education and social actions to policy reforms, the TechIsland Awards 2023 are taking place in Limassol.

CBN is on site to provide live coverage of the prestigious event throughout the evening.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos along with Andrey Fadeev, Member of the Board of Directors of TechIsland and Co-Founder and CEO of GDEV presented the award to the Department’s Director Maria Adamidou.

Also nominated in the category were Dr. Nicholas Mastroyiannopoulos, who served as Chief Scientist of Research and Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus, from 2020 until 2023, and the Ministry of Finance.

Speaking ahead of presenting the award to Adamidou, Fadeev noted, “TechIsland’s vision of transforming Cyprus into a global Tech Hub can only be realised with constructive collaboration between the public and private sector and unwavering state support. And that's exactly what our Game Changer category celebrates: government stakeholders who are laying the critical groundwork that elevates our tech ecosystem.”

Awards ceremony presenter Melanie Steliou, meanwhile, noted, “The Civil Registry and Migration Department is not merely an administrative unit; it's the first point of contact for international talents making Cyprus their new home. The Department plays a vital role in facilitating the relocation of international experts to Cyprus. The Department’s agility and commitment to continuous improvement, support the growth of the industry, helping to position Cyprus as an excellent place to live, work, and innovate.”

Accepting the Award on her Department’s behalf, Adamidou thanked TechIsland for the recognition of their work, and said this would give further impetus to continue their work.

“We have a mutual respect for each other,” she said, adding, the Department shared the President’s vision for the country and its tech sector. She also noted how proud she was of her time, and thanked the Ministry of the Interior for its ongoing support.”
