Alexey Gubarev awarded as The Thought Leader of the Year at the TechIsland Awards

Alexey Gubarev, a member of Palta’s board of directors, has been handed the final TechIsland Award for 2023, for the category of Thought Leader.

Taking place in Limassol, the event’s final prize was handed over by Minister of Interior Constantinos Ioannou and Valentinos Polykarpou, Chairman of TechIsland and General Manager of Wargaming.

Speaking ahead of the announcement of the winner, Polykarpou commented, “Thought leaders are the architects of the future. They dare to dream, and their actions echo their words. Tonight, we applaud the visionaries who are pushing boundaries and redefining the borders of our industry.”

Alongside Gubarev, also nominated in the category were Eleftherios Antoniades, founder & CTO, Odyssey Cybersecurity and Michael Tyrimos, Managing Director at Capacitor Partners.

Awards presenter Andreas Araouzos noted, “Alexey Gubarev is an entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist, but most of all a visionary deeply committed to Cyprus. Alexey has been more than instrumental in transforming Cyprus into a recognized tech hub. He has co-founded multiple successful tech ventures, including two unicorns: Palta, a leader in the health and well-being tech sector, and the hosting platform Servers.com, which was sold in 2023. These ventures are testaments to his business acumen, combining vision with execution.”

Steliou went on to note, “His latest venture to rejuvenate the iconic SODAP factory in Limassol into a world-class IT Quarter speaks of his commitment to creating an environment that nurtures innovation and talent. A business endeavor, a legacy blueprint for what Cyprus can achieve in the tech industry. But what sets him truly apart is his enduring faith in the potential of Cyprus. Alexey Gubarev is not just investing in businesses; he is investing in the island, in its people, and in its future. And it's that strong belief, that undiluted passion, which makes him a Thought Leader.”

Receiving his Award, Gubarev said, “This award is about leadership and about vision and not many people know how it started. My family and I have been in Cyprus for over 20 years. And five or six years ago we began to consider what can be done to make Cyprus better.”

These thoughts turned towards making Cyprus a tech hub. He noted that leadership was more than one person. He noted the calibre of the Tech Island board members and also the cooperation with the state.

“Cyprus has a bright future and we really need you to be part of it,” he concluded, addressing the attendees and stakeholders.
