Five scientists awarded at the RIF Research Awards

The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) Research Awards for the year 2023 were once again a huge success. Held at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre on 11 January, the ceremony had a significant turnout.
Five Cypriot scientists were awarded:
The Distinguished Researcher Award 2023 in Life Sciences was handed to Professor Leonidas A. Phylactou, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director, Head of the Molecular Genetics, Function & Therapy Department at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics.
The Young Researcher 2023 Award in Natural Sciences and Engineering was awarded to Dr Chrysovalantis Voutouri, Postdoctoral Scientist at the Cancer Biophysics Laboratory of the University of Cyprus and Founder of the company AnaBioSi-Data Ltd.
The Young Researcher 2023 Award in Life Sciences went to Dr Fotios Mpekris, Assistant Research Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Cyprus.
The Young Researcher 2023 Award in Humanities and Social Sciences was handed to Dr Georgios P. Georgiou, Assistant Professor of Linguistics at the University of Nicosia.
The Commercialisation of Research Results Award 2023 went to Dr Alexis Kyriacou, Founder and CEO of LELANTUS Innovations Ltd.
The awards were handed out by President Nikos Christodoulides.
The Research and Innovation Foundation has been handing out these awards since 2007 to recognise and reward excellence in the research sector. The awards were updated in 2013 to reward young and experienced researchers separately, in a bid to support and promote Cyprus’ distinguished scientists.
