The popular international brands that entered the Cypriot market in 2023

2023 was a year that saw a number of well-known brands enter the Cyprus market as well-known chains and brands from the hospitality, real estate, education, catering, sports goods, and beauty sectors all expanded on the island.

New hotels, restaurants, shops, and universities have appeared in the past year with the arrival of the brands in question demonstrating a vote of confidence in the domestic market.

  • Nyx Hotel

Through Leonardo Hotels & Resorts Mediterranean, a member of the Israeli Fattal Hotel Group, the Nyx Hotel brand is now active in the Cypriot market.

The first hotel, which opened its doors in the middle of summer, is located on Anexartisias and Christodoulou Chatzipavlou streets, in the old town of Limassol, opposite the beachfront, and near the Port, the Medieval Castle and the Marina.

The first Nyx lifestyle hotel in Limassol, consists of 189 luxurious rooms and suites, inspired by the urban style and energy of the city, seeking to take the field of hospitality to new heights.

  • Mercure (Accor)

Mercure, a medium-scale hotel chain of the Accor group, entered the Cypriot market last May, with the opening of the Mercure Larnaca Beach Resort in Oroklini.

The hotel consists of 60 rooms (Standard, Deluxe, Superior, Executive Suite, and Duplex Villas), a spa, a gym, outdoor pools, and is next to a public beach.

Indeed, Accor intends to further consolidate its presence in Cyprus, with a new Mercure hotel on the Phoinikoudes seafront promenade and in the heart of Larnaca.

Mercure City Hotel is expected to open its doors to the public in the second quarter of 2024, and will be the second hotel of the well-known mid-range hotel chain in Cyprus, coming after Mercure Beach Resort.

  • Ritz-Carlton Residences

The 33-story skyscraper Ritz-Carlton Residences is the brand new high-rise building, located on Amathountos Avenue, in Mouttagiaka. The Ritz-Carlton Residences consists of 182 residences, including 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments.

A specialist in high quality properties, Marfields, which has a portfolio that includes successful developments such as the Olympic Residence in Limassol and the Central Park Residences in Nicosia, brought the Ritz-Carlton Residences Limassol while at the same time making waves in the sector of luxury residential developments.

The agreements signed by Marfields with Marriot International ensure the implementation of standards consistent with the Ritz-Carlton ethos and regulations. Among other things, the management of the project by the Ritz-Carlton international team has been ensured, with the minimum duration set at 30 years.

  • Novikov

An internationally renowned high-end restaurant entrusted Cyprus, and specifically the high-rise Ritz-Carlton Residences, in Limassol with a new venue.

We are talking about Novikov Restaurant, which today has a presence in 10 different cities in Europe, Asia and America, including London, Miami, Ibiza and Doha.

  • Rodial

The global luxury skincare and beauty brand founded by Maria Hatzistefanis has arrived in Cyprus.

Relia Trading, the leading distributor of specialty skin care products, advanced wellness technologies and fitness equipment has introduced RODIAL to the market, distributing it to the Cyprus, Greece and Albania markets.

Former beauty editor Maria Hatzistefanis, who appeared as an investor on Dragons' Den, identified a gap in the market for a skin care line that would offer targeted treatments with immediate results and long-lasting benefits.

Founded in 1999 in London, Rodial is currently available in 35 countries and in over 2,000 luxury department stores worldwide, including Selfridges, Harrods and Neiman Marcus. The brand's Hero products such as Snake Serum, Dragon's Blood Sculpting Gel, VIT C Brightening Pads and Banana Lowlighter are regularly chosen by celebrities and influencers worldwide.

  • American University of Beirut

The renowned American University of Beirut (AUB) opened its twin campus in Paphos last September.

The establishment of AUB Mediterraneo is part of the American University of Beirut's global strategic vision, which was approved in June 2020 by the Board of Trustees and developed over three years with the goal of "ensuring the future success, relevance and sustainability of AUB during next decade and beyond."

AUB Mediterraneo started with five undergraduate and two graduate programmess: Philosophy, Politics and Economics (BA), Psychology (BS), Computer Science (BS), Industrial Engineering (BS), Business Administration (BBA), Business Analytics (MS), and Engineering Management (MS). The university plans to expand its academic programs and increase its number of students to 2,000 within 10 years.

  • JD

The first JD Sports store in Cyprus opened in April 2023 at MYMALL Limassol.

British giant JD Sports Fashion Plc., which Cosmos Sport has been part of since 2021, is a pioneer in Premium Sports & Street Fashion, listing over 3,400 stores worldwide in 32 countries.

The chain has carried out a dynamic expansion in the Cypriot market, as after Limassol and Nicosia, it proceeded to open a third store, in Metropolis Mall, in Larnaca.

The range of the multi-channel international chain selling branded sports and casual clothing includes widely recognised brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma and The North Face, which are combined with strong private labels such as Pink Soda and Supply & Demand.

  • Decathlon

Leading sporting goods retailer Decathlon entered the Cypriot market last July, opening Decathlon Cyprus, at Metropolis Mall in Larnaca.

Sports enthusiasts of all levels and ages can find more than 5,000 products, from sportswear, accessories, footwear and sports equipment, in a 2,500 sq.m.

Based in France, Decathlon offers a wide range of sportswear options, from clothing to accessories, equipment to shoes.

  • Avgerinos Cosmetics

Famous Greek brand Avgerinos Cosmetics has arrived at Metropolis Mall, in Larnaca.

A brand that stands out for its dazzling scents and flawless textures, it opened its first store in Cyprus last November.
