Cyprus assumes Chairmanship of OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation Troika

Cyprus has assumed the Presidency of the Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) of the Vienna-based regional Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), in which 57 states participate, from 1 January 2024.

According to a statement released by the Press and Information Office, during its four-month term until April 2024, the Cyprus Presidency will be in charge of organising, setting the agenda and coordinating the weekly meetings of the FSC, one of the two autonomous decision-making bodies of the OSCE, which deals with a wide range of issues of a political-military nature, with Cyprus being assisted in its work by Canada and Croatia, the outgoing and incoming Presidencies of the Forum respectively, forming with them the FSC Troika.

It is added that in this context, the first meeting of the Troika was held on Friday 12 January 2024, which marked the beginning of the official work of the Cyprus Chairmanship of the FSC. As stated, during the meeting, Cyprus' Permanent Representative to the OSCE and Chairperson of the FSC, Ambassador Andreas Ignatiou, stressed that Cyprus assumes the Chairmanship with a high sense of responsibility, being fully aware of the challenges facing the Organisation due to geopolitical developments.

During the meeting, the FSC's programme for the current four months was discussed, as well as the preparation of the first plenary session of the Forum, which will be chaired by Cyprus and will be held on Wednesday, 17 January 2024, in the presence of Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, the statement concluded.
