Minister Panayiotou to participate in Informal EU Environment Ministers Council

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment, Maria Panayiotou, will participate in the Informal EU Council of Environment Ministers, taking place on 15 and 16 January in Brussels.

According to an official press release, the Informal Council will discuss the European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA) report in order to ensure that future EU policies can actively consider and assess the acceptable risk level and inform the next policy choices of the EU.

Ministers will also exchange views on the steps the EU needs to take in order to establish a more comprehensive just transition policy to meet climate targets.

Moreover, the Minister will attend a Council working lunch, during which participants will discuss the strategic goal of achieving climate neutrality within the EU by 2050. 

The second day of the Council will focus on circular economy. Ministers will exchange views on on the role that the circular economy and resource management are expected to play in shaping a coherent framework in the coming years, in the EU and at the international level.
