Cyprus passport among the most powerful in the world with visa-free access to 182 countries

The Cypriot passport has risen four places in the world ranking in 2024 and is among the most powerful in the world, giving holders visa- free access to 182 countries.

According to the Henley & Partners passport index, the Cypriot passport is currently in 12th place which is the highest position it has ever held.

In 2023, the Cypriot passport was in 16th place, while in the three-year period 2020-2022 it was consistently in 15th place, falling from the 14th place it held in 2019.

In 12th place, together with the Cypriot passport, is also the passports of Liechtenstein and Malaysia. In 11th place is the passport of the United Arab Emirates and in 13th place the passports of Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania.

The most powerful passports in the world are from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain which are joint-first in the ranking. They are followed in second place by the passports of Finland, South Korea and Sweden and in third place by Austria, Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands.

Last in the ranking come the passports of Iraq (position 102), Syria (103) and Afghanistan (104).

The Henley Passport Index is the ranking of all passports worldwide, according to the number of destinations holders can visit without a prior visa.

The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world's largest and most accurate travel information database, and is supported by ongoing research by Henley & Partners' Research Department.
