Michael Damianos: Lawyer and DIKO Vice President named new Health Minister

A Managing Partner at Michael Damianos & Co LLC and Vice President of the Democratic Party (DIKO,) Michael Damianos has been named the new Minister of Health.

Damianos replaces Popi Nicolaidou Kanari, one of several officials included in a government reshuffle.

Damianos was born in Archangelos, Nicosia with family origins in Polystipos and Larnaca .

He holds an LLB with honours from the University of Southampton (and a recipient of the best academic achievement award from the same university), holder of an LLM from the University of Cambridge specialiwing in International Law (and recipient of the best academic achievement award honors degree from Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge) and holds the professional title of Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales. He worked at the international law firms of Simmons & Simmons and Hogan Lovells in London, specialising in corporate, commercial and energy matters.

Upon his return to Cyprus, he worked in a law firm in Nicosia and in 2010 founded the law firm that bears his name. He was a Municipal Councilor in the Municipality of Strovolos (2011-2016) and has been a Vice President of DIKO since 2018.

Damianos is married and has two children.
