Nicodemos Damianou: Highly-educated IT expert appointed Deputy Minister of Innovation, Research and Digital Policy

The government reshuffle has seen Nicodemos Damianou appointed to the position of Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy by the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides.

Damianou succeeds Philippos Hadjizacharias who resigned last Friday (5 January). Hadjizacharias’ duties had been temporarily taken on by Minister for Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeades.

Damianou was born in Nicosia in 1973. He holds a Sc.B. in Computer Science degree from Brown University in the USA, a Ph.D on Computer Security and Policy-based management of enterprise-wide systems & networks from Imperial College in the United Kingdom, a B.Sc. DIC (Diploma of Information Security) in Informational Security from Imperial College, as well as an MBA from the University of Cyprus.

He is an IT and information security professional with many years of experience in Payment Systems & Fintech, Risk Management Methodologies and Digital Transformation Technologies.

Damianou has been a Manager at the Bank of Cyprus, while for the last six years he has been CEO at JCC Payment Systems Ltd.

He is married and has two children, both girls.
