Hermes Airports offers free trees and plants to the public

Hermes Airports invites the public to Larnaka Airport from 10:00 to 12:00 on Saturday, 12 October 2024, to receive free plants as part of the “Green Lemonade” project.

More than 2,000 plants will be offered for free to the public, at a location opposite the departures entrance of Larnaka Airport (near Costa Coffee). The public can choose between trees, ornamental and aromatic plants.

The initiative is a continuation of the “Green Lemonade” project, launched by Hermes Airports in 2022 in collaboration with KEAN. “As part of this initiative, each year we collect the lemons from the 120 lemon trees at the airport’s outdoor areas,” Hermes Airports said in a press release. The lemons are delivered to KEAN factory in Limassol, where homemade lemonade without preservatives is produced. The lemonade was originally sold to passengers and the airport community, with proceeds used for environmental initiatives, including the donation of an educational drone for fire monitoring in collaboration with the Cyprus Institute, which was donated to the Cyprus Forestry Department.

This year, Hermes Airports and KEAN joined forces with Foody, which is selling the homemade lemonades (concentrated lemonade squash or ready-to-drink, 330ml) on its platform Foody Market. Proceeds from this year's sales will also go toward offering plants to the public.

The Director of Aviation Development and Communications at Hermes Airports, Maria Kouroupi, stated: "The Green Lemonade project has evolved into an environmental awareness and action project. Starting with the utilisation of our airport's lemon trees, we have created a sustainability cycle that extends to the broader community. For a second year, we are offering free trees and plants to the public, showing our commitment to increasing urban green. Through our collaboration with KEAN and Foody, we are expanding the impact of this initiative, giving more people the opportunity to contribute to the protection of the environment. At Hermes Airports, we believe that sustainable development is everyone's responsibility, and we continue with actions that have tangible and measurable impact on the society and the environment."

*Free parking will be provided for each visitor.
