Event held in London to promote collaboration between reputable UK and Cyprus Research Centres of Excellence

Invest Cyprus and the British Council in Cyprus recently co-organised a UK-CY Research Partnering Event in London to promote and support collaboration between reputable UK and Cyprus Research Centres of Excellence.

The event gathered academics and researchers from the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, UCL, The University of Edinburgh, Cardiff University, University of Southampton, Cranfield University, London South Bank University and The Francis Crick Institute, as well as from prestigious Cypriot Research Institutions.

The private education sector in Cyprus has always been well-organised and respected and, at tertiary level, several private universities have gained an international reputation for excellence and are thus attracting foreign students as well as locals seeking high-quality, English-language education and academic qualifications.

Indeed, the island boasts nine private universities. Frederick University, European University and University of Nicosia in the capital were the first three universities to gain a private Licence of Operation back in 2011. They were followed by Neapolis University - Pafos and the University of Central Lancashire – Cyprus in 2015. Later on, Philips University in Nicosia and American University of Cyprus (AUCY) in Larnaca were granted an Initial Licence of Operation, and they were followed by the American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) in Paphos and the University of Limassol (UoL) in 2023.
