James People: New Trends in Private Markets at Global Yield 2025

On November 7 and 8, 2024, Limassol will host one of the year’s premier investment events, the 10th Cyprus Funds Summit: Global Yield 2025 – Forecasting Financial Markets.

Bringing together over 30 international speakers and more than 500 professionals from around the world, the summit serves as a unique platform for networking and knowledge sharing.

One of the conference's keynote speakers is James People, Senior Alternatives Sales Specialist at Franklin Templeton Investments. In his presentation titled “Democratising Alternative Asset Classes – The Rise of Semi-Liquid Strategies Within the Private Markets”, People will delve into the growing prominence of semi-liquid structures within private markets. He will explore how these structures, which offer increased liquidity, are emerging as a viable alternative to traditional closed-end investment vehicles. People will address the evolution of semi-liquid models, examining the trends and preferences that are shaping today’s market landscape. He will also highlight how asset managers can preserve underlying asset returns while effectively managing perpetual capital flows.

In addition to discussing the structural shifts, People will explore which asset classes are most suitable for democratization and why this development is critical for investors seeking access to previously restricted markets. He will further examine the challenges that investors face in this transition and the pivotal role that distributors play in facilitating this access. Another key aspect of his talk will focus on strategies for mitigating the typical J-curve effect seen in private markets, and the importance of perpetual vehicles in achieving this balance.

James People is an expert in alternative investments, covering the EMEA region at Franklin Templeton Investments with a particular focus on alternative strategies. Prior to joining Franklin Templeton, he held senior roles at several prominent international investment firms, including CQS, Muzinich, and BlueBay Asset Management, specializing in alternative credit solutions. People began his career at Goldman Sachs, where he gained in-depth experience in credit trading and institutional portfolio management.

The Global Yield 2025 summit offers a comprehensive agenda that covers a range of critical topics, including strategies in equity and fixed income investments, the integration of artificial intelligence and smart data in trading, and emerging regulatory changes. Additionally, there will be in-depth discussions on the expanding opportunities and obligations related to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investing. The conference will take place at the luxurious City of Dreams Mediterranean in Limassol, a venue that seamlessly blends business and leisure, providing an exceptional experience for all attendees.
