MED9 EU Affairs Ministers to discuss Middle East situation during meeting in Nicosia

The situation in the Middle East and the EU's new institutional cycle will be discussed, among others, during the MED9 European Affairs Ministerial Meeting due to take place in the new Nicosia City Hall.

According to the programme of the 3 October Meeting, it will start at 9.30am local time and the Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the nine Mediterranean member states of the European Union - Cyprus, France, Greece, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Malta, Portugal and Slovenia -  will discuss the situation in the Middle East and the EU's new institutional cycle.

Cyprus’ Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, said on Wednesday that they would discuss the priorities of the Mediterranean EU member states as regards the new institutional cycle and issues such as migration, the EU's green and digital transition and issues concerning the new Multiannual Financial Framework.

The latest developments in the region would also be discussed, she said, both on Thursday and next week at the level of the MED9 Heads of State.

The Ministerial Meeting is being held as Cyprus holds the MED9 Presidency for 2024 and is a preparatory one as it takes place ahead of the MED9 Heads of State Summit to be held in Paphos, Cyprus, on 11 October.
