Agros Rosewater becomes the 13th Cypriot product registered as PGI

Rodostagma Agrou/ Agros Rosewater has become the thirteenth Cypriot product to be registered in the official register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs) of the European Union (EU) and the second to be registered within 2024, after Tertziellouthkia.

This was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment which added that it will continue to work for the registration of more traditional products to be protected through EU geographical indications.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, another traditional Cypriot product, "Rodostagma Agrou/ Agros Rosewater", has been registered in the official EU register of geographical indications, adding yet another product to the list of Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs).

It is noted that the application was submitted to the European Commission in August 2022 and the registration was published on the official EU website on 4 October 2024. It is added that "Rodostagma Agrou/ Agros Rosewater" is the thirteenth Cypriot product to be registered and the second to be registered within the year 2024, after Tertziellouthkia.

The Ministry, adds that it continues "to work towards the registration of more traditional products to be protected through EU geographical indications." 

According to the press release the registration of these products not only protects their unique identity and their link to their place of origin, but also bolsters local communities, providing new employment opportunities and strengthening the economy of the region.

Agros Rosewater is “an aromatic water produced from whole flowers of a species of aromatic rose, the rosa damascene” adding that the product is characterised by a particularly intense aroma, which resembles the scent of fresh roses.
